Why do we need a bus?

A lot of after-school, summer and senior activities were canceled because of budget cuts and social distancing has created capacity restrictions where guests are limited on campuses. There is evidence that music therapy reduces anxiety, lifts moods, and improves auditory and verbal memory. Instead of going into buildings, The AFTH Harp Music Bus will bring small group and one-on-one harp enrichment programs in the student’s parking lot or driveway. The AFTH Harp Music Bus is a mobile music school equipped with harps, music stands, seating, a retractable stage with state-of-the-art sound and lighting. AFTH exposes the harp instrument to students of all ages who will experience playing the harp for the first time. AFTH needs a harp music bus to reach more youth and seniors. A mobile music program will eliminate transportation barriers to accessing high-quality harp music enrichment programs.

Who does the AFTH Harp Bus serve?

Students of all ages (children, youth, and seniors) can take harp lessons inside the retrofitted bus or outside under the bus’s sunroof using the airy environment as acoustics and inspiration.

Where Does the AFTH Harp Bus Go?

The harp music would love to visit your school, summer camp, community seniors, senior centers, nursing homes, the park, birthday parties, other special events in the Greater Atlanta area and rural Georgia. The harp music bus is also available for field trips, tours, and holiday caroling.

How much does retrofitting the bus cost?

$25,000. The cost includes the purchase of the bus, flooring, interior design, sound and lights, a small, retractable stage, and preventative maintenance. We have an inventory of harps, music stands, and chairs for the performers that will be used on the bus.

Why do we need volunteers?

We need volunteers on the weekends to help build out the interior of the bus: laying flooring, hanging shelves, painting, and installing seats.

Seeking carpenters, electricians, painters, crafters, and people who want to roll up their sleeves for a great cause!
